The
Stonefire and Sonoma Gas Log Sets
There is an incredible difference
over standard log sets.
One of the most
amazing features of the new fireplaces is the Patented Gas log
set!....It is incredible!!....It was developed specifically for Fire
Stone Home Products and these fireplaces. It has a wind resistant
Pilot, a Stainless burner system and grate, it kicks out 60,000 BTU’s of
beautiful eye-popping dancing Yellow & Orange flames…..and yet does not
require a chimney!!!.....The log set was developed exclusively for Fire
Stone by Hargrove, a major gas log manufacturer. It is truly
unique!.....Why?
Up until now gas
logs have been manufactured for two different applications. A) For
vented applications B) For non-vented applications which
are normally inside of homes or other closed in areas.
a)Vented
logs usually produce 60-90,000 BTU. They could never be used indoors as
they do not burn clean enough and thus would soot up the house and
suffocate the inhabitants….Not Good!
b)Unvented
logs produce a maximum of 37,000 BTU's and burn at 99% efficiency. They
are approved in many states (Not in CA) for use indoors. The maximum
BTU’s is a paltry 37,000 as anything greater would produce to many
by-products of combustion.
The New category of
log set developed for Fire Stone is a Hybrid. It not only is designed
to withstand the outdoor elements it has a Log set that cranks out
60,000 BTU’s with a great flame!.....Of course 60,000 BTU’s would never
allow it to be used indoors as it would produce to many by-products of
combustion….But who cares!!...This logset was designed for outside not
inside!
Well, if it is going
outside what is the big deal one may ask?....Why not just use a standard
90,000 BTU log set?.
The answer is simple. Standard gas logs should never be used in an
unvented application even if it is outdoors Why? A
standard gas log set was designed to be vented. Manufactures did not
care if there were by-products of combustion! After all, the by
products would be exhausted through a chimney into the atmosphere. The
reason that a standard gas log set cannot be used in an unvented firebox
even if it is outside is that the only place for the by-products of
combustion to escape the firebox is to out of the top of the front of
the unit…..This would in short order coat the entire front of the
fireplace in soot!
The problem with
using a standard 37,000 BTU's unvented gas log in an outdoor fireplace
is that the flame is pitiful….You spend $5-7K and can’t even roast a
marshmallow!!
Why is non-vent
great? Several reasons. First, at 60,000 BTU’s an unvented fireplace
will feel more like 120,000 BTU's …this is due to the fact that all of
the heat is projected out of the front of the firebox. As opposed to a
standard vented log where most of the heat is channeled up the flue.
Also, the infrared
radiation that is produced by flame and surfaces that get hot are the
key elements in feeling warmth. The hotter the temperature of a
surface, the greater the amount of infrared energy that is produced.
Infrared energy is a light ray. It is what the Sun produces. It
becomes heat when it is absorbed on a surface. It does not warm the
air. It is a light ray that passes through the air at the speed of
light and only becomes heat once absorbed on a surface. That is why the
side of your face in the sun is warmer then the side in the shade. The
air temp is identical on both sides, however the side that faces the sun
is absorbing the infrared energy which becomes heat.
Why is this
scientific foray into infrared energy rela”vent” to the new Fire
Stone fireplace?...This is why. A standard vented fireplace, has huge
volumes of air that move through the firebox, the bigger the fire the
more draft that is produced. The draft has a cooling effect on the
interior temperature of the firebox greatly diminishing the infrared
energy radiating outward from the interior firebox surface. The
unvented firebox from Firestone and Sonoma has no draft. As the 60,000
BTU’s heat up the interior firebox the infrared energy is radiated
outward, warming the recipient even if the air is cold. Also, since the
material used in the firebox has been engineered with highly insulating
properties, very little of the heat is transferred out of the firebox
via conduction through the firebox walls….rather it is projected
precisely where it provides the only real value to our customer’s
family, and friends!
Fire Stone’s new
patented fireplace produces the effect, when compared to standard vented
fireplaces, of approx 120,000 BTU’s of effective heat…while only
consuming 60,000 BTU’s of energy…..That is a tremendous
savings!!.....Also, because the patented log set has been engineered
with high efficiency it produces scant traces of “particulate matter”
and thus no soot on the face of the fireplace!......and is
environmentally friendly to our precious ozone layer!
The versatility that
an unvented fireplace provides, vastly opens opportunity for more
consumers to enjoy the benefits of an outdoor fireplace. It can be
installed virtually anywhere outside…..Under an deck or over hang, up
against a fence or wall And because it does not need it, chimney
it is available in heights below 5ft…Thus not becoming an issue for
architectural approval in many neighborhoods wherein the height
exceeding your neighbors fence of 5 feet is at issue…….Also, since it
does not have a chimney, there are not issues relate to proper spark
arrestor codes.
All of the foregoing
aside this fireplace would sell on it’s sheer beauty alone!...The
Stonefire and Sonora fireplaces provide a very distinct eye pleasing
style that is sure to find appeal.
